46% of SMBs haven’t considered a business continuity plan

Less than twelve months ago the UK suffered severe flooding in many parts of the country and this can often prove costly. This situation could be further exacerbated within smaller organizations as a new study has shown that 46% of small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) haven’t considered a business continuity plan to carry on trading or mitigate losses.

Given the severe weather the United Kingdom has endured over the last few years, it might be expected that businesses have developed plans to make them better prepared, however this does not appear to be the case as research by the ​Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) found that three-fifths (59%) of small businesses they questioned did not have a plan in place to deal with such events.

In 2014, the UK experienced what was described as extensive flooding, and while the BCI’s Central Office wasn’t directly impacted, or at least water didn’t access the building, it did prove to be disruptive in terms of staff getting to work. Several employees were forced to work from home for a few days as the roads they would normally have taken to get to work were under water.
