Business Continuity Institute research has revealed that while uptake is high when it comes to organizations having an emergency communications plans, two thirds of those organizations who do not have one would only consider adopting them in the event of a business affecting event.

Business Continuity Institute research has exposed the high costs that businesses are facing as a result of supply chain disruptions in this increasingly interconnected world. Nearly a quarter of businesses suffered from disruptions within the past year that cost in excess of €1 million, with many of these not having sufficient insurance to cover those losses.

The dawn of the new year in 2014 was welcomed in with what the Business Continuity Institute’s Chairman – Steve Mellish FBCI – referred to as his 2020 Vision, a commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the BCI. This was not to be a reflection on the previous two decades, but rather a look at what lies ahead in what he termed a new horizon for the industry and those working within it.

Business continuity is not that much a new concept. Being not new also means that it probably is due to be redesigned. Since the inception of Business Continuity Management in the late 80s and early 90s of the last century, the world has changed quite a bit. The main concepts, procedures and processes of BCM however have not changed that much in the past 25 or so years.
