TNT cyber attack still hitting small firms

The NotPetya ransomware attack which struck a month ago, on the very day the Business Continuity Institute launched its Cyber Resilience Report, is still affecting many organizations, with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) reporting that it has serious concerns over the continuing impact on TNT's small business customers.

The effects of ransomware attacks on organizations can cause unquantifiable financial cost and immeasurable data loss. Yet, despite this, there is a lack of awareness when it comes to being prepared. A study conducted by Timico and Datto found that two-thirds of UK businesses have no official ransomware policy to guide employees on what to do in the event of an attack.

​30% of NHS Trusts in the UK have experienced a ransomware attack, potentially placing patient data and lives at risk. One Trust – Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust – admitted to being attacked 19 times in just 12 months. These were the findings of a Freedom of Information request submitted by SentinelOne.

​The threat of ransomware is rapidly growing with 43% of IT consultants in a survey by ​Intermedia reporting they have had customers fall victim to an attack. 48% saw an increase in ransomware related support inquiries and 59% of respondents expect the number of attacks to increase this year.
