There have been a several incidents in the UK over Christmas and New Year which point towards changes in the incident landscape and new challenges for business continuity people. I think these changes are going to affect us in 2016 and for several years to come.

I think use of the notification systems in ‘peacetime’ has to be limited to ensure people don’t feel they are plagued by messages. However, I do feel that they could be a very powerful tool for raising awareness of business continuity within an organisation and providing helpful information to staff.

One photograph taken during an incident can come to define that incident. The picture of Aylan Kurdi lying dead in the surf in Turkey, may come to define the refugee crisis taking place in Europe at present. Listening to some commentary on Radio 4 yesterday, they tried to explain why the picture was so powerful.
